This Privacy Policy describes how Dakota Labs LLC ("Dakota Labs," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information when you use Beau — Dog Companion, our iOS application.
Beau stores your data on your device and your own iCloud account. We do not have servers that receive your data. We do not sell your personal data, share it with advertisers, or build profiles for third-party targeting.
Dog profile data. You provide information about your dog to use Beau's features. This includes your dog's name (required), breed (optional), birthday (optional), and photo (optional). This data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and, if iCloud is enabled, synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit.
Event log data. When you log activities for your dog, Beau records the event type (out, fed, sleep, walk, training, medication, vet, or milestone), a timestamp, and optional notes, outcome, and duration. Like dog profile data, events are stored locally on your device and synced to your iCloud account if enabled.
Subscription data. If you subscribe to Beau+, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store via StoreKit 2. We do not receive or store your payment card information. We receive only a subscription entitlement status from Apple's StoreKit to unlock premium features locally on your device.
Notification preferences. If you enable reminders, Beau schedules local push notifications on your device (e.g., potty break reminders, feeding reminders). These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on your device by iOS. No notification data is sent to any server.
On your device. All dog profiles, event logs, and app preferences are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework.
iCloud sync. If you have iCloud enabled for Beau, your data is synced across your own devices via Apple CloudKit. This sync is between your own Apple devices only — Dakota Labs does not operate any servers that receive, store, or process your data. iCloud data is governed by Apple's privacy policy and your Apple ID account settings.
No Dakota Labs servers. In its current version, Beau does not transmit any of your data to Dakota Labs servers or any third-party servers. Your data stays on your device and, optionally, in your personal iCloud account.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose beyond operating Beau on your device.
Apple (iCloud / CloudKit / StoreKit / UserNotifications). Beau uses Apple's built-in frameworks exclusively. iCloud CloudKit syncs your data between your own devices. StoreKit 2 manages subscription purchases. UserNotifications handles local reminders. Apple's own privacy policy governs data that Apple processes. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Local data. Your data persists on your device as long as Beau is installed. To delete all local data, simply delete the Beau app from your device.
iCloud data. Data synced to iCloud can be deleted by going to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Beau and deleting the data. Alternatively, deleting the app and then clearing the iCloud storage for Beau will remove all data.
Because we do not store your data on any Dakota Labs servers, there is no server-side data to delete.
Your data is protected by Apple's built-in security mechanisms: on-device encryption via iOS data protection, and end-to-end encryption for iCloud data (where supported by Apple). We do not transmit your data over any network that we control, so there is no server-side attack surface for your Beau data.
iCloud sync. You can disable iCloud sync for Beau at any time via Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud. Your data will remain local to each device.
Notifications. You can manage or revoke notification permissions at any time via Settings → Notifications → Beau.
Subscription management. You can cancel your Beau+ subscription at any time via Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iOS device.
Data deletion. Delete the app to remove all local data. Clear iCloud storage for Beau to remove synced data. See Section 6 above for details.
Beau is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Beau, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly as Beau adds new features. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. If a future version of Beau introduces server-side features or new data collection, we will update this policy to reflect those changes before they take effect. Continued use of Beau after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
